About Us

Renee’s House of Quilting, Inc.

All my life my dream was to have a fabric store. Originally it was to be fashion fabrics. My background was in textile and design. I can’t remember a time when I didn’t sew. In college I did some theater work along with custom sewing for other students. After getting married I continued to take any and all sewing classes I could find. There were Stretch and Sew classes, extension classes at the college and workshops at the local fabric stores. I worked for So Fro House of fabrics for 6 years, and learned so much about how to set displays and how to showcase fabrics. During all this time I continued to sew costumes and custom dress making. I left the sewing community for 6 years but the love of fabric won out. A friend and I ended up going to Paducah, Kentucky to the national quilt show. There were displays of some of the most beautiful quilts from all over the world. They showed everything from hand quilting, traditional quilting to new modern quilts. Some of the quilts were simply works of art. Now I could have the best of both worlds: fashion design blended with quilting. The wonderful world of quilting suddenly opened up a whole new world for me. The possibility and uses of quilting fabrics is only limited by your imagination. Today we have fabric that is digitally printed so the color and designs are infinite. Some of the fabrics are works of art before you even make them into quilts. What we have available in quilting fabric for placemats, wall décor, quilts and quilted clothing is endless.

The time came, my family was grown, now it was time to build the dream. In 2003 after careful consideration my husband and I purchased a 1912 farmhouse on M72 in Williamsburg. It was perfect for what we wanted to do. We opened in 2004 and have been growing ever since. Every room was going to be something different; a children’s room, Christmas room, flannel /sales room and then the main sales floor. We kept the kitchen a kitchen so the men would have a place to sit and visit. Glenn made homemade cookies every day as treat for our customers. Hopefully he will start cookies again soon. We expanded in 2008 so there could have a classroom. In 2017 it was decided we needed a bigger sales floor which led to the second expansion and doubled our sales floor. We wanted the new show room to look like an art gallery to fully showcase our beautiful quilt samples. We wanted tall walls with a cathedral ceiling and fabulous lighting. We wanted spacious walk ways so that the customer could stand back and look at our beautiful fabrics.

Now we are expanding again. We are building a new online store. Our son Gabriel has joined our staff and he is building a new Renee’s House of Quilting online store. He is ordering fabric lines from Moda, Henry Glass, Studio E, Hoffman, Blank, Benartex, Free Spirit, 3 Wishes, Robert Kaufman and more. The fabric he is ordering is geared for all age levels. Gabe has a style all his own, he is a quilter and understands the technology of quilt making. The online store will be offering clubs, on line classes and much more. You can order online and pickup in store or any order over $50 ships for free. Gabe will also be working on the floor and taking over some of Glenn’s duties.

We strive to live by our motto “Never too Busy to Pass Out a Smile”. Customer service is very important to us, our staff strives to help the customers build their own projects or sometimes just find the right fabric for their project. We love to see what our customers make and appreciate it when they bring in their finished quilts, jackets or totes/purses!

We really try to have fabrics that you won’t find in other stores. My husband once said if everyone else has it Renee doesn’t want it. We want unique, special, bright wonderful fabrics. Batik quilting fabrics are very popular and blend well with regular fabrics in home decorations, quilted jackets and quilts. Shannon cuddle/Minky is just like its name and cuddly for the back of your quilts. We carry a nice line of flannel and a small selection of wool. All the quilts on the walls have kits available and or patterns. Everyone seems to love panels so we panels for books, animals, landscape, children, Asian and more. We carry a full line of Mettler thread: cotton quilting thread, cotton piecing thread, and Polysheen for embroidery. You have to have the right thread for the right project. Since fashion fabric is still a personal favorite we carry about 20 bolts of rayon batik.

I would like to thank all of our staff for their dedication and loyalty. Many of our ladies have been with us almost from the start. They love fabrics and are game to try and make any and all projects. If they don’t know the answer to your questions they will try and find out. During the Covid shut down they all pitched in making masks to donate to anyone who needed them. Because of them and some dedicated customers we were able to make 3500 masks to donate to the hospitals, senior centers, VA clinic, health care works and workers for the State of Michigan. I can’t thank them enough for their dedication to us personally and for their love of our store.
